Dr. Lluis Ferrer

Lluis Ferrer, LV, PhD, ECVD

Dr. Lluis Ferrer qualified as a veterinarian in 1981 from the University of Zaragoza in Spain. He received his Masters of Science degree in Animal Pathology from the Hannover University of Veterinary Medicine in 1983 and PhD from the University of Zaragoza in 1985. Dr. Ferrer took a faculty position as Associate Professor of Pathology and Dermatology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) in 1984 and was promoted to the rank of Professor in 1992. He established the veterinary dermatology service at the university in 1994 and has been a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Dermatology (ECVD) since 1995. The ECVD is recognized by the American College of Veterinary Dermatology.

Dr. Ferrer's research credentials are exceptional. He lists 114 publications in his CV and a Pub Med search provides a list of 93 publications. Dr. Ferrer has published in many different journals, including PLoS Genetics, Journal of Comparative Pathology, Veterinary Parasitology, Histology Histopathology, The Veterinary Journal, and Veterinary Dermatology. Dr. Ferrer has also authored 7 book chapters. Graduate student training has been an important component of his position at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB); Dr. Ferrer has directed or codirected 12 PhD students. One of his most interesting areas of research is the study of Shar Pei Fever, involving collaboration with Dr. Kerstin Lindblad-Toh at the Broad Institute. His administrative experience includes positions as Director of the Department of Animal Pathology (1990-1994), Dean of the Faculty (1994-1998), Vice Rector for Research (1998-2002), and Rector of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) (2002-2009). The rector is equivalent to our university president and presides over the collegiate bodies, including the University Senate, the Governing Council, and Advisory Board.
