Oncology Services
As in people, cancer is a frequent disease in our beloved pets. It is estimated that 1 in 4 dogs and 1 in 6 cats will develop cancer in their lives and almost 50% of dogs over the age of 10 years will die of cancer-related problems. The types of cancer that affect dogs and cats are very similar to their human counterparts. However, despite its bad reputation, cancer remains a chronic disease like any other, with many effective treatment options.
At Tufts VETS we offer comprehensive diagnostic tests for our patients: bloodwork, cytology, biopsy, flow cytometry, radiographs, ultrasound and CT-Scan, among others. Our state-of-the-art facility allows a multimodal treatment approach that can include surgery, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy. Each patient receives a tailored treatment plan that matches their disease and family’s expectations.
Most importantly, it is our priority to maintain a good quality of life for our patients. Approximately two-thirds of dogs do not develop any significant side effects from chemotherapy and only 5% require hospitalization.
