Dr. Sandra Allweiler

Sandra Allweiler, DVM, Diplomate ACVAA

Dr. Sandra Allweiler is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia. She graduated in 1997 from Ludwig-Maximilian University in Munich, Germany and received her Dr. Med-Vet degree from the University of Zurich, Switzerland in 2001. The same year she started a large animal anesthesia internship at New Bolton Center, the Large Animal Veterinary Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

In 2005 Sandra completed a three-year residency in veterinary anesthesia at the Royal Veterinary College in London, UK. Sandra worked as a clinical instructor at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, Canada before she accepted in 2006 a position as Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Colorado State University, that she held until 2016. She joined the University of Minnesota as an associate professor before moving to Oregon State to teach veterinary students. In 2021 Sandra moved to the Boston area and worked at Angell Memorial before joining Tufts Vets in Walpole. Her interests are in pain management (especially geriatric and cancer patients) and wildlife anesthesia. She is certified in traditional (Chi Institute) and veterinary medical acupuncture and in canine massage and rehabilitation through the Canine Rehabilitation Institute (CRI). She lectures nationally and internationally on anesthesia and pain management.

Outside of work Sandra enjoys photography, hiking, traveling and most important spending time with her family.
