Anesthesia Services
When pets need general anesthesia for a diagnostic procedure or surgery it can induce anxiety, particularly when our pets are sick or require complicated surgery. Fortunately, at TVETS we have a board-certified anesthesiologist who can assist in creating an anesthetic plan specific to your pets’ needs. Dr. Alicia Karas graduated from Tufts Veterinary School in 1989 and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia in 1996. For 3 decades, she has provided anesthesia services in addition to teaching anesthesiology, sedation, and pain medicine.
Anesthesia and surgery is a collaborative effort between Dr. Karas, our skills technician anesthetists, and the primary clinician managing your pets care. Dr. Karas enjoys working with Team Anesthesia at Tufts VETS, to provide skillful, safe anesthesia and pain management for patients. She also treats chronic pain in small animals using a blend of techniques, incorporating medicines, lifestyle modification, and hands-on techniques such as acupuncture and veterinary spinal manipulation.
Upon request, Dr. Karas can be scheduled to come into the hospital to carry out an anesthesia plan and monitor your pet throughout the entirety of their surgery. If you are interested in Dr. Karas’ services, please inform your pet health care team.
